We are a non-profit organization which exists
for the purpose of helping the orphans of Kenya
and Tanzania whose lives have been tragically
disrupted because of AIDS, abandonment,
and poverty . Through offering assistance to African
families that have responded to the needs of these
orphans, we are helping African families become
self sufficient as they help African orphans.
In rural areas the cost of living is low
and employment opportunities are scarce, a one-time
loan to the value of US $100 - $400 can be all
it takes to break the cycle of poverty and ensure
that a whole family has a steady, modest income
and can afford proper education and health care.
Assist the people of Kenya and Tanzania by
easing the financial burdens on many families
who are caring for orphans, provide an opportunity
for financial self sufficiency from which the
whole family unit can benefit and by so doing
ensure that some of the root-causes of poverty
are redressed.
Avoid cultivating aid dependency. This is
done by providing the assistance in the form
of a managed once-only loan for the specific
purpose of achieving the goal of self-sufficiency.
The beneficiaries understand from the beginning
that there will be no more assistance given,
other than ongoing business management advice.
Provide an opportunity for orphans to grow
up in a caring family, rather than in the streets.
Provide a chance for children within the family
to have an opportunity to learn a trade or skill
through family based businesses (Eg: Farming,
carpentry, tailoring, commerce, etc)
Use the available resources for the maximum
benefit.
Through networks of HIALEM Christian
workers in Kenya and Tanzania, provide
pastoral care and spiritual guidance and practical
help to those in the scheme.
The International donor support base works in partnership
with a the teams in Kenya and Tanzania who
carry out the administration of the project within
established guidelines and remain accountable to
the American board in the management of the
funds.
The administration in Africa involves:
Assessment of potential recipients and their
needs
Evaluation of possibilities for sustainable
self sufficiency based on the recipient's background,
skills, location, etc.
Purchase and delivery of items for assistance.
Eg: Livestock, tools, equipment, seeds, materials,
etc.
our
resolve
All workers are volunteers who give freely of
their time. If you choose to give to this project
you can be confident that your donations arrive
at the place of need because administration costs
(other than the usual bank fees) are being covered
by the American Board members and the church with
which they are associated.
